Lol I dont think its gonna happen overnight guys but... I love our stuff and enjoy playing so we will tread on.

Had a meeting tonight with Mr. T. He was awesome... Learned alot from him, his views on artistic integrety and moving the art further. The one key i took away was that VH has to pay its dues and just keep at it till we get our name out there. (virginhunters ... hahha at least itll be easy to remember i think). We also have to strive to form our own identity/package and sound. We have to try to push songwriting further and come out with something that will identify us. Hes not a rock fan but i think its all the same when we talk about not "rehashing" art but rather to come up with something new and truley original. Anyhow... we will keep working on our stuff... and try to be different from the 1000 other bands in the country and hopefully come up with something that will be a blast to listen to.

Thanks Mr. T. we appreciate your inputs and hope you follow the band and drop us some advice every now and then.

Wow its been an eternity since I've blogged here. Well Ill start it up again. I guess most of the readers are gone but this is the bands sounding board anyway so Ill just blog away.

The bands been on a long vacation mainly because of some internal problems. First off, I still have problems with anton and caleb and derek. hahah... but I cant discuss that in public. Damn this is my blog and I should be able to write anything I want... damn these band agreements.

Anyhow, we just had a gig last saturday at 6UG and it was hella fun. The crowd was very receptive to us and cheered/ and claped and all (but they didnt stand up and go wild.). Thanks to the guys that supported VH ... Special Mention to PALOYS.. U DA MAN.

Were back in the studio again writing new stuff (obviously lyrics below) and we are shooting for a december release for the CD. 10 tracks mastered with kickass cover art. ahhahaha... yup... well se where we go from there... but anyway for the readers that are with us ... thanks for sticking around!

ONE BAND

Last night was an up and down night for me but over all I think it went well. I just want to give a shout out to the people that made it possible.

Thanks to everyone that supports their VirginHunters. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed playing in Saguijo.

To answer the question:
1. Why VirginHunters?: I started this band way back with Atticus King and really want to give him credit for the name. When approaching song writing we always enjoyed wit and double meanings (think GnR Rocket Queen, medyo bastos siya but in the end love song pala) and wanted to come up with a name that was a bit edgy but was inline with the double meaning approach. So here my attempt to explain the double meanings: The first interpretation is the obvious one; that we are looking for virgins (which is what people always think…. funny since our frontman/vocalist is a first year undergrad professor -JK); the second being we are the virgins on our first hunt. In all honesty its actually the latter because this was my first band with Atz after knowing him for about 16 years. We found it funny that we never worked together being that we did start playing guitar at the same time and were such good friends. We actually competed more with each other than collaborated which as really sad. So this was our first time to work, write and perform together… thus virgin. Hunters just sounded cool and was a perfect match for virgin. We also liked it because of its whole yin and yang feel. If you think about it… virgin means something clean, white, and pure while hunters is very aggressive dark and gritty which is pretty much what we wanted to convey, a balance. Of course people like to think its bastos and all, but really, a lot of thought and time was put into the name. We probably will have a lot of problems getting a label, gigs, endorsements, and accepted (I can imagine the backlash from activists) but theres really a deeper meaning to it all. DERITIS.

I just want to say that I've been listening to After The Sun over and over again, and goddamnit, we rock. Haha. The 6UG video is kinda blurred because I forgot to tell atz and nelly to turn on the LCD backlight since it was too dark. Thanks again for everyone who were there to support us, especially to Cherry, Pinky, Betsy who is there for every gig. :) Word up to the Angkhan Hagibis boys for bringing in a large contingent as well. Tin and friends for the continuous support, Mark, Karla, and of course to Miks for getting us the gig. You're the man. Tracy and Trixie, thanks for showing up even if you didn't catch the set, heh. And to atz and nelly for taking the videos. :)

Wow, I'm surprised people are actually looking for updates. Hahaha. First off couple of updates:

We have shows on Feb. 16 and Mar 2 at Ponticello. It's a fund raiser so there will be a cover charge. It’s for a good cause though so please go. I will post the details when the lineup is set. But the question for this gig .. in the immortal words of Marty Casey … do we go “electric or acoustic?” …. Hahaha , either way it will be a new challenge.

This is unconfirmed, but I think we have a gig on the 18th at freedom bar with kiko machine and stonefree. Don’t know if that’s tuloy but there’s a 80% chance its pushing through. Why unconfirmed? Well because Anton hasn’t ironed it out yet.

VH has rehearsals tonight and I HOPE EVERYONE SHOWS UP ON TIME! I won’t mention names but some MEMBERS have a tenDency to show up 4 hours late. We have a new song. I like it... hahaha .. guitar parts are not yet down but probably 60% there. All the other parts are still up in the air. I don't know ... miks seems to be more productive lately.

That’s about it on the VH front… will post more ramblings and useless information soon.

Sup sup Virgins. it's 2006 and we've finally come back from our loooong vacation. It's all good though because 06 feels like a fresh start for the band. We just got out of the studio last night and we got some real work done. We were pretty much rearranging "after the sun" which is comming to its own. I'm becoming very happy with the song.

To our readers and everyone that responds to our little polls ... Thank you. You all have inspired us to play and keep writing music. We really dont want to be compared to hale or cqushe or whatever ... but in this country I feel thats unavoidable. We try to be as honest as we can in our music and if we do write cheese it's because thats what were feeling at that moment in time. If we write something hard it's because theres something that we wanna say. Were definately not going to compromise the music to suit what is "in" (single selection maybe but definately not the music).

I'll try to get the band to finish 2 more songs by the end of this month. Hopefully we can get "after the sun" and "fuck it" out soon to balance the bands current selection. We're in the process of rearranging and cleaning up parts which is really tedious and difficult so please keep writing and sharing your comments because they truley inspire us.

Miks and I were talking about a system to discern which of our compositions rock and which ones don't. We both have differing views on what rocks and what sucks. We'd like an outside perspective and we need your help to tell us.

It's 6am. I just got home from playing pc with the band. It was fun and it's always fun hanging with the boys but damn this is toooo much.

I'm quitting this game guys. It has given me nothing but problems. My work, workouts, sleep, guitar practice, and Maike has suffered for it.

No DOTA or WOW for me from now on. We have to find something else to do when we hang out. Why don't we do something physical instead like dodgeball hehe anton you're mine. or capoiera. or frisbee. or karaoke. at least these alternatives give us more take home value then playing pc.

I'm putting this on the blog so that ya'll can mark me on this.

Please help me get over this addiction and focus instead on our music. I want to tour the world and playing dota won't get us there. We know it.

We'll Toppanga is making major tampo with me. I have no freakin idea why. I got my voodoo hex back today and its been retubed.. pots cleaned ... biased a little hot so im enjoying my self with Toppanga wailing away. My maid even walks in on me as im doing the guitar hero stance thing. FEEL NA FEEL. Shortly after that i go .. "ok enough fun... its time to work on some tones"... so i bring out my POD plug it into my speaker thinggie and BOOM SHE SOUNDS LIKE CRAP. Could it be that I came from the voodoo and got used to its kickass tone? I was back to the original amp sims suck, tubes are the way to go... but seriously... i couldnt believe i was gigging with that sound. It was horrible. So now I have this ringing in my ear and I sound like crap... kaka walang gana to practice. I cant wait for shiva to come home. FUCK!

On the lighter side... I decided to put my SC (who has no name up until now) up for sale. I figured shes a great axe but I really want a diff color. Yup I am shallow and superficial. Anyhow she went the opposite of Toppanga. I plugged her in the POD and i was like wow ... YOU SOUND GOOD ... (not as good as top thru the hex but damn it was good). Anyhow ... tonight sucked. I was psyched to play with Toppanga and write but instead I was fiddling with knobs the whole night trying to get it to sound good. FUCK I HATE GUITAR TONE... I wish all guitars sounded the same so we could just pick up and play.

Another cool thing today. I was in JB and I met up with Jericho and Vic. Damn they are all getting new gretch sets as endorsers. I wanna endorse something. PRS? YES! SEND ME A MODERN EAGLE PLS. So eitherway we gotta kickass and get big soon so I can request for my MODERN EAGLE or at least get a 50% discount off the street price.

And heres the plug: IF THERE ARE ANY GUITARISTS OUT THERE THAT READ THIS ... GO AND CHECKOUT THE ZOOM G2. It seriously kicks ass... and at 4800 ... its a friggin deal. I would say its capable of some pro quality tones ... but for the price it cant be beat. Everyone can sound pro now... plus i was using a lame suzuki strat! Wow! It sounded good and played half decent. all in all strat 8k zoom 5k keyboard amp 5k... for 18k you can sound presentable (much better than the marshalls they have) ... its unbeleivable.. BTW nins if you read this go buy it... Jericho told me you were intereted. And for ATZ we should buy it as backup... WOOT WOOT.

Look we need to get it together. I posted the 13 album songs and gave an open invite to bunk at my place. Then Miks decides to play WOW and get the whole band into it. Caleb just text me asking if I was going to join in cus the rest of you were. I'd love to but the album is my priority.

Now theres nothing wrong with playing PC games if that was the purpose of this group but it's supposed to be a band. Read the website address.

Our work ethic sucks so bad. Nothing will happen unless you guys (Miks and Anton) make some sacrifices and stop letting your depression get to you. Use the music to heal and express that depression instead of numbing the pain with video games.

Miks your complaining aout your DOTA addiction. I have the same problem too but I'm trying to control it.

You guys have to decide what you want to happen, because this bands future is in your hands and we have to do something before this gets outa hand. I have plans and priorities aside from our band. My work is affected because of the time VH consumes. That would be cool if VH was reciprocating and giving back more. But it isn't. I want an album out by next year before my birthday. If you guys want that as much as I do then we can work together. If you'd rather kill Onyxia and be the greatest WOW player and be bestfriends with Jon, thats cool too. Just let me know now. So we don't waste each others time.

Ok I just wanna share with the band and the readers that my addiction to dota sucks. Slept at 430 last night and only won 1 game. I fed most of the night... (not as bad as others) but sucked none the less... this has to stop. Either I stop playing dota all together or I become really really good. What do you think?

VIRGIN SIDE

1. Bleed- pretty much done instrument wise. I think we can still add harmonies and adjust the vocals.

2. Single Virgins/Lani - for rearrangement. Derek, you mentioned you had some ideas bro?

3. Hunter/Unicorn - with real violins. Miks lets nail that swelling guitar with the delay effect. Derek I really dig that cello sound and the arpeggio in the start. I think you play a root, fifth, ninth. preferably no electric guitar until the solo. to dramatize the impact I'd like to use acoustic for most of the song. I guess its similar to bleed.

4. Set Sail - old DMBish meets googoo dolls song. Really soft but kicks ass. Gota borrow Dales 12 string for this. I'll send you guys the mp3. The songs done but maybe we can rock it up more.

5. B movie love song - love the awesome catchy melody. Miks can I do the tapping part pleeeeaaaseee. hehe is this going to be an instrumental or are we going to have lyrics for it? Anton watcha think?

6. Triviani - the hendrixy ballad. strats and jem 7vwh through the fenderesque cleans. I actually dig the impromptu lyrics Xavi made. What do you think Anton? Also it gets kinda boring can we add more riffs or at least a chorus?

HUNTER SIDE

7. M16 - ok Anton I know you hate that chromatic riff and Miks I know you hate the arrangement. Miks, Derek, Leb can you guys help disect and rearrange the song. Anton and I tried already and we didn't get anywhere.

8. Fuckit - Miks are you content with it now? I think we can still let it breathe and polish chorus?

9. Ballroom - done except for the vocal harmonies and remove the octave harmony in the ending.

10. After the sun - Miks I heard from a little bird that you weren't happy with the song. What do you wana adjust? I think the 2nd verse should be kept clean as well. I'm going to sacrifice riffing away for the song sniff.

11. Wrath of the Pharaoh - Probably the heaviest song on the album. Miks you think the chorus sucks. I think it rocks. Let's work on it.

12. Illiaster - the triumphant heavy song. Anton lyrics please. Miks I've got complementary riffs written for 2 guitars.

13. M - needs more detail. The lyrics and riffs are at 80%?

the gig last night at mag.net cafe was fun. although we were the last band, i have to say i still had a good time. nothing beats the rush you get on stage once you start performing. the band of course would like to thank monty of mayonnaise and dinggoy for getting us another gig, we really appreciate it. i would also like to thank my sister, amina, for staying up late and taking the time out to watch her little brother perform onstage. i'll try to upload the video she took of us during our set in multiply.

it was also the first time that we played "after the sun" live and although there are still a lot of minor details we have to work on for the song, i'd have to say that it was the most kickass song we've performed yet. derek's bass solo was just godly and atticus's guitar solo for that song has to be his best one yet.

anyway, we will be at franches bar again on the 29th, so we hope to see you guys there.

I'm a man of wealth and taste. I've been around for a long, long year. Stole many a man's soul and faith... hehe cheers mick. (check out the GNR cover of "sympathy for the devil" it F&^$ rocks!)

Whats happening fellas? Well we've kinda sorted stuff out in the band. No more drama(for now) It looks like we're going to be shooting for a 13 song album. Why 13?!... no idea I just pulled that number outa my ass. Dead line is this year. Miks and I are working double time on them riffs. Can we get a chick to volunteer to go out with Miks and 'unstress' him? That seems to be the only inspiration that can get him to write. So to all the women out there...Jenny? Polly?

Well so far we've got five songs down. Ballroom, Single Virgins, Bleed, Fuck it, and After the Sun.

We've been in the studio working on creating more depth and texture for our compositions and I reckon Ballroom and After the Sun are the tracks that have the most involvement from the whole band and you can really feel the creative energy from everyone. It feels and sounds really great because we're finding our signature "Virgin Hunter" sound. Derek is the brilliant mastermind whose teaching us how to create more drama and to maximize the 'build up' effect.

Next up we're rearranging the old songs and I'm really looking forward to rearranging "Fuck it" All the ladies in our lives seem to like this particular song. Maike, Betsy, and Anton love it. Miks hope you don't mind reworking the song and the lyrics.

Lastly, to all the loyal readers out there. Thanks for checking up on us and staying interested. Hope to see ya'll at the gigs. We will guarantee that we will rock your pants off. If we don't we will buy you all the Jaeger you can drink. But if your pants do come off...

Yes! I quit NATF.

Here's the story:

I enjoyed playing with NATF for a good 7 months and learned alot from the band. It was alot of fun. The problem was production values for the album and overall approach to music was not my style. Nino wanted to come up with an album that would "sell like hotcakes" and take advantage of the whole "covers" environment in the Philippines. This is cool because this is the music biz but not exactly what I had in mind.

Another one of my concerns was the way the band was run. We wanted let go of our dummer but we didnt do it in the most professional way. This wasnt cool.

The main reason I really quit was that the whole project became work. I have a day job and am doing this because its my first love and my passion. When it started becoming about deadlines, numbers... blah blah blah... I figured it was time to leave.

Lastly, I'm very particular about the "sound" of the band and my playing was not what NATF needed. I like the sound of real guitars thru real amps thru room mics and all... NOT THE POD approach. I like developing my sound and not trying to emulate someone else's. So... That was that. Thanks for the ride Natf it was a blast.

Now for the more important stuff

a couple of VH updates:

VH had a recent gig over at Franches Bar along East Ave with Mayonaisse and Hiraya. It was a really fun gig and was much better than the Asylum one last October. We received really good feedback from people too. I have a 3gp (mobile phone) video of the gig which has really low-quality video and sound quality which I can upload to the gmail.

We are looking into recording "Fuck It" soon, and hopefully "After The Sun". Me and Atticus have been working on the song and I think we can both say that in terms of lyrics, melody, and basic guitar parts, the song's already complete. We just need the rest of the band to put in the bass lines and drum parts and help us arrange it and fix the dynamics and frills of the song.
Song-writing has been our focus lately. Aside from the two songs mentioned above, we are also working on M, Voicemail, and Illiaster, and we plan to pull out M16 from the shelves soon.

Things are starting to fall into place so we hope to see you all soon. :)

Sup VirginHunters. Been a while since anyone has posted. Yup theres alot of drama going on in the band that I'm not very happy about. Apparently everyones got their own ideas... their own problems ... own hangups ... blah blah blah... THIS FROM A BAND THAT DOESNT EVEN HAVE A REGULAR SHOW. Anyhow I'm sick of it all so I think its time for a new page in VHness. Tonight is the first real rehersal/Jam we will be having in a long time. Were gonna try to finish a song that i like to call Bitch. We have some pretty kick ass lyrics for it that we'll post when we have it done... and itll be great to have another song under the belt.

As for the other band RATF is finally over. That was a long drawn out bar tour that I learned a great deal from. Yup I do sell out and do other stuff other than VH music but I learn and I take it all back. yes Atz I love you.. hahahha... and if you still visit the site I really want you to hear some of the work I did with them ... its pretty cool. As for gigs n stuff... DEREK PLEASE GIVE US BACK THE DEMO SO WE CAN MARKET THE MUSIC. lol ... i wanna get gigs so if anyone knows anyone that can help get us into some serious gigs (not the Asylum type ones) ... we would really appreciate it. Its funny how atz has all the hook ups but never really moved anything.

Any how, im in a blogging mood so ill blog away. I just ordered a new mesa boogie cabinet that will be coming in from the US in about a month. The fucker is huge. About 121 lbs. I think thats insane considering we play at gigs like pipers hahahah which is about hte size of 3 bowling lanes. I really wanna get the material out but have no idea how to do so.... oh well ... I'm sure it will all come around. NATF is fun and im still doing alot of work for them. It's a fun and learning experience.

Sup guys.

Well, here are some updates. Me and Miks were in the studio yesterday, Saturday, and laid down the vocal tracks for Single Virgins (Lani) and Bleed to replace the guide track that was used for the initial release of the demos. Hopefully, Miks can upload it to our multiply site soon for your hearing pleasure.

If you guys have been reading, yes, Atticus has taken a leave of absence from the band. He decided to move to the backseat for a while, which is alright. He'll still be playing with us though during our gigs. So don't forget to see us live on the 15th in Asylum.

We were supposed to record "Fuck It" yesterday as well, however, half of the band was sick. Derek, our gift from god, recently got out of the hospital after a week-long battle with dengue fever. We're all glad you're back on your feet bro. And as for Caleb, I think he just wanted soup from his mom and pretended to be sick.

The band is currently negotiating some possible gig schedules with 6Underground and Admit One Productions. We're keeping our fingers crossed and constantly praying and meditating that we can start playing for them soon.

Sup fellas,

Miks and I have a made a major decision to transfer the Virgin Hunters management and leadership to him. After accepting the fact that we have different goals for the band and perspective on how things are to be run. I've decided not to continue with the band.

As with most things in life, time calls for change and it is best to accept that fact. Nevertheless, I am proud to be involved with VH. I learned a lot on all aspects from musicianship, leadership, management and camaraderie. It has helped me grow and I will fondly remember jamming and composing till everyone would walk out with their ears ringing from my amp volume. I am loud.

I will continue to finish the gigs for October, hope to see ya'll there.

We have a slot for an October 15 gig, Saturday. Please mark your calendars guys. I'll let you boys know the details as soon as I get more information. Thanks to Christopher Diao of Crash Ambulance for referring us to Cecile of Full Circle Entertainment. The gig is supposed to be for an opening of a new bar in Tomas Morato where the theme is where artists, poets and musicians alike, can share their stuff. They'll let us know the name of the bar by Monday.

Admit One in Saguijo tonight by the way, me and Atticus will be there to give our demo cd to some local acts who can probably help us get into some other local productions. Try to pass by if you can. We will be ther at around 9pm.

I just want to share what I've learned from listening to peoples comments and how they apply to virginhunters music. First off... its really spread out... some ppl like one thing while others like the other and more often than not comments and suggestions from 2 different people are suggestions to take the music in two opposite ways. So what is to take away from this? Well it boils down to everyone having opinions and everyone has their preferences and should be taken as input and not advice.

My takes on opinions:
1. There is no such thing as something being loose... especially when someone intended it to be loose and "breathable"... Noisy is another thing all together. What is important it the music remains musical and pleasing to the ear. I believe intentional mistakes add character and can be a good thing all together. I just watched that stupid movie RED EYE last night, and wanted to use that girl there (from the notebook) as an illustration of good mistakes. She's not as perfect as cindy crawford or stephanie seymore but it's her imperfections that give her so much character and add to her beauty. It all boils down to your preferences... but all said ... they are both really hot. So all opinions about something being loose or tight are valid ... but are not laws and shouldt be treated as such. BTW SABOG is different also - i beleive that falls under noisy.

2. Repetitive - This is a very valid comment. Something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. I got a nice comment yesterday, someone told me bleed was either repetitive or hooky ... he just couldn’t decide yet... This was completely valid and should be considered.

3. There should be a solo here.... the drums should have come in earlier. - like i said these are opinions ... comments like these are useless because its does not address WHY we should put a solo there... to improve our over all writing skills we have to get to the whys.

4. comments on recording quality are awesome because this helps us figure out how we want the album to sound.

How would you compare yourself to today's rock scene?
SLASH: "None of us sit around and try to be master musicians, which is what a lot of people do. I'm into making up a really cool riff or rhythm pattern, but it's got to be in a song - not something you'd listen to for technical prowess. There are very few musos who I can get into for more than five minutes. Jeff Beck is one of the few guys where I can sit and listen to a whole record…"

Duff has spoken about an intangible connection between the three of you. How would you describe it?
SLASH: "Duff's always been a real unique, great sounding bass player. And the first time I saw Matt I knew we had to get him into GN'R. He caught my ear as one of the most amazing drummers I'd ever heard.

"Before this, me, Duff and Matt hadn't been in a room together in six years, and we'd forgotten how well it works. I think Axl really took it for granted how great the four of us - including Izzy - worked together, because it was hard for him to replace us. When the three of us walked into the rehearsal studio, we all had a real feeling about it. All of a sudden I didn't feel like your regular Joe fuckin' off the street guitar player. And as soon as we all started playing, there was a real powerful vibe going."

Conceivably, if Guns had stayed together and kept that original feeling from the early days, do you think this an album they could have made?
SLASH: "I got so disillusioned with Guns that I even stopped being able to write for the band. That was in '95 when I started doing Snakepit. I remember Axl threatening to sue me because he thought that material should have been for GN'R. I just didn't see Guns doing it so I slapped it all together for a solo record. But, the stuff we're doing now, I've asked myself, 'I wonder if Axl thinks this should have been his?' But when this comes out it's gonna be a lot better and sound more together than he was probably hoping it would be."

What about Superhuman? That opening riff sounds similar to your phrase on Sweet Child O' Mine, but twisted, on acid.SLASH: "That's cool, it just came out of nowhere. I think the Sweet Child O' Mine influence pops up because it's a single-note style of mine, especially when I do this octave thing around a melody. I have to give Axl credit, because if he hadn't recognized it as being great, I wouldn't have used it, I thought it was a joke. It was just me doing a lick with chord changes underneath to gave it some movement. Then Axl came in and started singing it. I hated that song until after '88 or '89. We were touring with Aerosmith, and it was such a huge hit you couldn't ignore it."

Miks calls me up at 1am and decides to be nice to me. He has finally agreed to cover a song that I want (better yet, love). I'll be very happy with either Tool's Parabola (Track 6 and 7 from the Lateralus album; 6 is actually Parabol, the intro to Parabola, but we don't have to do that) or A Perfect Circle's Hollow. Either of those would be awesome. Thanks. It flatters me and excites me that you've finally decided to try to dip into my musical territory.

I'm more inclined with Parabola as it would also stretch Caleb's drum playing and the bagsakans are reminiscent of Ballroom. There are some drum fills with a double bass, but it shouldn't be necessary. Haha, kups, yare ka. Derek should also enjoy the basslines on the breakdown somewhere around 2:33 of the song. The song in essence is 4/4, however, some of the off-time fills should stretch the band in terms of timing. It's going to be insane. The song is also in Drop B tuning but playable in Drop D.

And yes Atz, I'm already learning that song that you texted me last night. We'll definitely do it.

Losing My Dying Sheep

Nobody. And I mean Nobody will be listening to the recording last night.

I sounded like a dying sheep, hung upside down, with its balls torn and stuck in its nose, while whacking its ass with its two legs which was ripped from it using an old rusty hacksaw. Or in dota terms: I was ambushed by Rhasta and Sven, storm bolted, cycloned, sheeped, then he cast his ultimate, then Drow Ranger comes in and frost fucks me all the way to china, as nerubian weaver delivers a time lapse combo to my spleen.

Sigh.

We will re-record it tomorrow, Thursday. I've been practicing my singing and worked out my abs in the process. I feel like I'm about to get an aneurysm singing from the gut. I wonder if I'm doing it right. It sounds better, I think. I'm getting there. See you guys tomorrow.

So my friend from 99.5RT just called me to follow up our EP. Apparently, Neil, the host of their weekly show "Raw Tomatoes" which features local unsigned independent bands, has been itching to hear our stuff.

If we could put in one or two more heavy songs this Saturday or the next, and finish up, then all will be good. Atticus and I already have a temporary arrangement for M16 with lyrics and melodies. I think it's something that we can work with for now. Reborn, which I know is the baby of them all, actually has more structure than the rest and could be something we can fiddle with as well as soon as the three songs are finally recorded.

Perhaps we can try to record M16 and Reborn in the studio that Miks was talking about. Blue Something?

Figured we have not really been writing for our visitors so I figured I'd blog a little bit. The EP is coming along well. We were able to finish the drum and bass tracks for ballroom (faster version), bleed and SV. All the songs feel tighter and I'm generally happier with the new stuff. I guess we can upload the old version of ballroom already (since were not gonna use it) for you to comment on and stuff.

On another VH note, we were supposed to start gigging on weekdays at pipers but never really got around to getting the stuff down. I think we need about 10 - 12 songs for a good set and I'm still waiting for suggestions. My biggest problem is ppl dont want to learn covers. It's really hard dealing with this band (as compared to NATF) because no one wants to learn new songs. I got 1 new suggestion from atz but thats about it. Anyhow... look out for us next week. I'm gonna make sure we get this down... (I dont know how because I'm still going crazy with so much to do). Pls readers if you have any suggestions... share them with us.

For the VH. We got rehersals on tuesday and another studio day on saturday. For tuesday please learn "be yourself" "that alice in chains song" and the original clapton version of "layla". I don't think we'll have time to rearrange it on tuesday ... well maybe we might but its best we all come in knowing the classic version.

On a pipers solution .... guys lets buy a floor tom and modify it to be a bass drum. I was in a studio last night and the drum set was cool. They basically turned the floor tom into a bass drum. This might be something we can use for pipers.

finally some thoughts posted by moi.. hehe..

was listening to bauroom (as shinji calls it) again earlier and it is... s l o w.

i heard it a couple of times and i thought that it was all a matter of getting used to but sheesh it just didn't quite level up the excitement i was expecting the song to have. another thing, i've also realized that we need to be a lot more tight. maybe the speed can help address this but nevertheless kulang pa IMHO. haaay. kulang ng valor.. if you know what i mean. I have some builds for Caleb too. he could be more aggressive in his playing.. the song has room for that. let's keep working on the vocals because we're getting there. go go go anton!

I admit it's partly my fault since we didn't do drums and bass first but well, i think we got a good idea of how to work in the studio and i'm sure we'll get it eventually... after an arm and a leg?!...not..ackkk...

Damn.. but its getting better don't you all think? heck and the XP were getting from all the recording is coolness!.. next step.. GIGS!! hehehehe... :)

atz, when do you want to write?

i have ideas for m16.

i was thinking of a very melodic verse. plucking notes. although, the tempo's quite fast. melodicaly sang. fast plucking. upbeat bassline tempo. although subdued drums.

prechorus/chorus kicks in, thats when we use the heavy verse riff. and its going to be really HEAVY. then it reverts back to the slightly romantic verse parts.

bleh. i'll be better understood when i can show you what i mean. i just didn't want to forget.

VH Schedule for the week

Hey Virgins! Yeah... Balroom kicks ass.. I think we rock. Anyhow, on the schedule for this week. I forgot to tell you but I cant make it on thursday. We have a company bowling event at rockwell (which your welcome to attend). I'm trying to get Mike Unson to do a short set which should be fun. Tuesday is on though and Im pretty much free for friday and saturday (studio day). I wanna have about an hour or two sometime in the week to meet though so that we can plan out saturday strategically and get some stuff down. Was thinking we could do it EARLY tuesday at about 7pm which means LEAVE YOUR HOUSES AT 6PM NOT 7PM SPECIAL MENTION ATTICUS ROBERT KING AND CALEBUGAN!

On an odd note, Ill be in the studio later (rubadub). It's on shaw and will give you guys a full report on the facilities and eqipment. It's supposed to be one of the better studios and might be a alternative to my studio. Im going deaf bec our room is way too small and I really want too impose a volume cut. Plus.... itll make everyone come on time.

Other suggestions. LATE PENALTY. If anyone is late for tomorrows practice I think we should put in a PHP150 buck penalty which will go into a food pot. This has been carefully thought out. It goes like this ... Caleb Atz and Derek are the ones who are usually late... so that comes out to 450 bucks... Whoa what a coincidence now that we have the Pizza hut card our bill is 455! Damn that means me and anton split the 5 bucks and the late comers pay for the food! Sound off if this is cool coz everyones supposed to split the food costs anyway which is like 100 bucks a head... so no big deal.

Other suggestions. Food pot. I can have luz cook n shit but I think we should start donating a food pot coz well... food costs money... hahah ... and ive been shouldering it for a bit now. Anyhow all is good... I dont like collecting coz it sucks... but just so you know the pot will be given to Luz at teh end of every month so she can make palenke and stuff.

To my fellow virgin hunters,

Okay, we've been playing way too much DOTA.

Can we designate this week as band week? Tuesday and Thursday are studio nights at Miks; to finalize Derek's bass line for Bleed and polish up Single Virgins for Saturday. Let's be there on time and not cut things early just to go to 168. I'm going to spend some time with Atticus (because he's the only one who told me he was free to write some songs) on our off-days to lay down some lyrics and vocals and fix up some of our existing riffs such as M16 and Wrath.

Let's set aside the geeks in us for just one week and get the musicians in us out again. Alright? Awesome.

I'm going to send our pre-mix mp3 of Ballroom to some people and try to get us some more gigs for September. We need to hit the stage, again. Get our feet wet. I need to hear our music in my sleep, and not "Godlike!" or "Unstoppable!". It's getting insane.

I just listened to it again (three times). I think we're also being very anal about ourselves (which can be a good thing too). The song is awesome. Haha. It's more of a live song though. But just imagine after we play it several times and have put in all of our new ideas into it. The song will evolve by itself through constant gigging. It has so much potential. It's awesome. We've done nothing but criticize it so I think it's a good time to actually give ourselves some credit.

I've been listening to ballroom over and over for the past 30 minutes. Aside from the obvious fact that my vocal track needs work, I have a few things I wanted to share.

1. The song no longer peaks
- We seem to have gotten to stuck to that goddamn metronome too much. The overall tempo of the song feels too slow. We need to make it a bit faster. The song has become flat and dragging.

2. Rocking out
- The song doesn't really rock out the way it does when we play it live. Why? The thing is, it's supposed to pick up after the first chorus -- the "Anton is going to hell" part (God's a bitch?), but it doesn't in the recording. What happened is that the vocals start to go insane, but the guitar parts still have the controlled laid-back vibe of the first two choruses. That part should no longer be palm muted and subdued. It's when we're all supposed to go crazy. Drums go crazy. Guitars go nuts. Bass goes nuts. I go nuts. Remember how we used to play it originally? In trying so hard not to give away the riff early, we actually lost the riff. We lost the crunch. The "oomph" of the song.

3. Melody
- I've been playing around with the melody of the song, and hope to share it with you guys the next time we jam it. The first two verses are alright, but need more, what's the word, frizz? arte? It gets kind of monotonous, so I just have to play with the phrasing a little. And I seriously want to not rasp it too much (going against caleb's advise here). Anyway, I'll make more sense when we jam.

4. Bridge
- I know the song is already 4:21 seconds , but it might need a bridge part. It doesn't have to be long. We need to break the tempo. Either speed it up or slow down even more. It just needs a break. You get it? It's like a highway. I know we have a lot of left and right turns, but we don't have any slopes. We need the slopes. To slow down the song while going up, then go really fast while going down. The dynamics currently are awesome, but those are left and right turns, not up and down slopes. The song being stuck to 86 beats on that goddamn metronome neutralized its energy.

5. Mixing
- I can't hear the guitars too much, and Derek, you need to get new strings to make the sound of your bass more -- round? There are parts where the bass line is really awesome but it doesn't come out right. And lower the volume of my vocal tracks, haha. More guitars! More crunch!

Wassapors. Was just reading your cousins blog "wanda" and it was hella entertaining. She has the same complex me and atz have (napoleon ... atz more than me) .... hahahaha ... but we do our thing differently.

I just wanted to say I'm really excited about the material and cant wait to get it out. We have to finish the arrangement for Fuckit and Hunter pretty soon if we wanna get them on the EP.

As for this whole NATF thing, Atz has been giving me a hard time about it and IT SUCKS SO GANG BANG HIM TO STOP. I HAVE VH ON MY GUITARS AND ALL MY EQUIPMENT NOT NATF ... GET THE FRIGGIN PICTURE. This is my band bro dont worry about my heart not being in it.

Well, Miks and Derek won't be able to make it on Thursday because they have a gig with NATF from 9 to 11pm. Either the rest of us proceed to Sound Creations at around 7 - 8pm, work on Ballroom and Bleed's vocal tracks or start laying down the guide tracks for Hunter. I'm sure Miks and Derek can then follow for a late-night session. Let's at least get Ballroom done.

Miks is trying to reschedule it on Wednesday, since Derek can't make it on Friday either.

Next week, when we get another schedule for the studio, please, no more excuses? I know the target date for the EP release is end of August, but we shouldn't be too careless and delinquent, else we will never get this done. A lot of people are already waiting for it. It's all good, though.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, is jam night at Miks.

No, not dota practice. Band practice. We will jam on Tuesday night to work on Fuck It and play around with Ballroom in case Caleb and Derek would like to redo their tracks this coming Thursday. If we finish early, who knows. One band? One six eight!
